How to fight off sickness when you feel it coming

prevent sickness

You woke up to get ready for the office and feel that something is wrong with your body today. You ignore it for a while but then realize that there is something odd.

Your throat is aching, fatigue hits in, and you experience aches in the whole body. It indicates that your body is fighting with the invading microbes, and sickness maybe is on its way.

What is next now? Should you surrender to those invading microbes and get ready to spend some terrible time in bed? Or you can still put up some resistance and fight your way back to get things normal?

We asked our healthcare experts, and here is what they told us to do to fight off sickness when we feel it coming.

1. Rest, rest, and rest

Your body is fighting off the pathogens to keep you healthy, and you are betraying it by going to the office? Please do not do that!

According to experts, when you feel sick, you should minimize all of your activities and rest. So your body can effectively compete with the disease-causing agents and normalize your health as soon as possible.

2. Consume a healthy diet

Whenever you feel sick, it is a sign that your immune system is trying its level best to fight the invading pathogens.

Therefore, it is your responsibility to support your body by consuming a healthy diet.

Think of it as a war because the better you train, support, and equip your troops, the better they perform on the battlefield.

So consume healthy diets so your body can easily digest them to absorb the necessary nutrients and utilize them to fight off sickness.

Eat foods enriched with proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, fibers, and other crucial nutrients. Make sure whatever you eat does not mess up the digestive system of your body.

3. Go and get enough sleep

An inadequate amount of sleep can disturb many processes ongoing in your body, including your immune system.

According to studies, lack of enough sleep weakens the immune system of your body. It makes you more vulnerable to the attacking microbes.

Therefore, we recommend taking enough sleep as it boosts your immune system and helps you stay healthy.

4. Increase your fluid intake

When your body is fighting the germs, it is using all of its resources. It consumes more food & fluids than it does when you are healthy.

It is like a battlefield where the troops need consistent supplies of arms and ammunition to survive. Always drink a lot of fluid so you can stay hydrated and help your body to recover.

5. Quit exercise and other physical activities

The very first thing you should do is rest your body. That is to say, do not try to be a superhero and go for a mile run or do 50 pushups and end up exhausting yourself.

Rest will help you revive your immune system and support it.

6. Try gargling saltwater to fight off sickness

Gargling is another way to get away with sickness. If you feel some pain and aching in your throat, take a cup of warm water and add a pinch of salt into it.

In fact, the combo of salt and warm water reduces the inflammation in your throat. The salty water clears it from the mucus and viruses to provide you relief.

7. Use over the counter medicines

Many over the counter medicines like ibuprofen, panadol, cough syrups will help you fight the developing condition.

8. Use honey to fight off sickness

Honey is another healthy diet to keep sickness away. It has antioxidant and antimicrobial effects that help the body to combat viral infections.

It creates a thick film around the mucus present in your throat due to its smooth nature. Honey also reduces the severity of inflammation and infection.

Note: Children under 12 months of age should never eat honey as it leads to infant botulism.

When to see a doctor?
