1. Maintain a healthy weight
Being overweight or obese are linked with a tremendous risk of breast cancer, especially after menopause.
The American Cancer Society urges women to stay at a healthful weight and to avoid excess weight gain by adjusting their food consumption with physical activity.
If you’re already at a healthy weight, no worries, but if you are not, try to keep your weight in control.
2. Stay physically active

However, if you intend to continue drinking your liquors, try to have two or less alcoholic drinks per week.
4. Quit smoking.
Various studies show that there is a link between breast cancer and smoking, especially in younger women. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. If you do smoke, try to quit.
5. Avoid or limit hormone replacement therapy.
If you are using a combined method of hormone replacement therapy continued than 3 to 5 years, you have an increased risk of breast cancer.
If you are taking this treatment for symptoms of menopause, talk to your doctor regarding other options.
There may be non-hormonal methods that will help control your symptoms. If the advantages outweigh the chances of taking hormone replacement therapy, try to use the lowest dose that works for you.
6. Breastfeed your baby.
Many studies have shown that breastfeeding your baby may prevent breast cancer at an older age. The more you breastfeed, the better your odds of not developing breast cancer.
7. Medications to lower breast cancer risk
This is for women who are at increased risk of breast cancer (such as your age, your family’s history of breast cancer, and inherited mutations in your BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic tests.)
Prescription medications can be used to help the lower chance of breast cancer such as tamoxifen and raloxifene, which can help to block the effect of estrogen in breast tissue.
