3. The Gift of Counsel

Counsel, often called Right Judgment, helps us make wise choices and steer clear of moral danger. When faced with a tricky situation, the Holy Spirit’s counsel can gently point the way that pleases God and benefits others.

In Proverbs 3:5–6, we find these encouraging words:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

This promise means that as we rely on God’s guidance, the path before us becomes clear.

4. The Gift of Fortitude

Fortitude, or might, is the gift that provides inner strength and courage, enabling us to stand up for what is right, even under pressure. It gives us the power to endure troubles and find peace in our faith.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

That is fortitude in action—confidence that with God’s help, we can overcome obstacles while remaining faithful.

5. The Gift of Knowledge

Knowledge goes beyond book learning. It involves having an awareness of God’s purpose and seeing how His truth unfolds within the everyday world. This gift means recognizing God’s hand in the wonders of creation and in the events of our lives.

When we have the gift of knowledge, we better understand that nothing is too big or too small for God to manage. This helps us trust Him more deeply.

6. The Gift of Piety

Piety is often described as reverence or devotion. This gift helps us see God as our loving Father and leads us to show respect and affection in worship, prayer, and daily life. It makes us desire closeness with the Lord, naturally prompting us to treat others with gentleness and compassion.

When piety flourishes, we find joy in serving at church, aiding people in need, or simply praying for neighbors and friends.

7. The Gift of Fear of the Lord

This final gift, sometimes called “wonder and awe,” inspires a deep sense of respect for God. Rather than a feeling of terror, it is a loving reverence for the One who created the heavens and the earth.

Psalm 111:10 tells us:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”

This kind of reverence keeps our hearts humble and eager to obey God’s commands. It reminds us that we stand before a holy, mighty, and good God whose ways are far above our own.
